What pallet grades mean

Used wooden pallets are sorted into grades based on their condition, structural integrity, and appearance. The grade tells you how much wear a pallet has, how much load it can safely carry, and whether it suits export, racking, or general handling. Choosing the right grade keeps your costs down without risking failed loads. Grade A used pallets

Grade A is the highest grade of used pallet. These pallets are clean, structurally sound, and close to new in appearance, with no broken or replaced boards and minimal staining or repair. They have usually completed only one or two trips.

  • Best for: export shipments, retail-facing loads, automated racking and conveyor systems, and any application where appearance and reliability matter.
  • Condition: uniform boards, clean surface, full load rating, ready for immediate use.

Grade B used pallets

Grade B is the everyday working pallet. These pallets show visible wear and may include minor repairs such as a replaced deck board, but they remain structurally sound and safe for repeated handling. They are the most cost-effective option for businesses moving stock at volume.

  • Best for: internal logistics, general distribution, storage, and shuttle loads where appearance is not critical.
  • Condition: sound structure with cosmetic wear; may have a small number of repaired boards.

Grade C used pallets

Grade C is the lowest standard grade. These pallets have heavier wear and may need repair before reuse. They suit one-way shipments, low-demand handling, or situations where pallets are not returned. What about "Light" pallets?

"Light" is a weight class, not a condition grade. Light pallets — such as our Light Euro used pallets — use thinner timber and are lighter to handle, with a lower load rating than standard or heavy-duty pallets. Choose a light pallet for lower-weight loads where reducing pallet weight and cost matters more than maximum load capacity.

Which grade should you choose?

  • Exporting or shipping to customers? Choose Grade A for appearance and reliability. For export outside the UK, also confirm ISPM-15 heat-treatment requirements.
  • Moving stock internally at volume? Grade B gives the best value.
  • Need the cheapest option for non-returnable loads? Ask about Grade C availability.
  • Carrying lighter loads? Consider a Light pallet to reduce weight and cost.

What is the difference between Grade A and Grade B pallets?

Are used pallets strong enough for racking?

Grade A used pallets are suitable for most static and dynamic racking applications. For heavy or automated racking, confirm the load rating with us before ordering so we can match the right pallet to your system.

Can I mix grades in one bulk order?

Yes. Many trade buyers order Grade A for export and Grade B for internal use. Tell us your split and we will quote accordingly. Minimum order is 80 pallets.
